How Am I Part Of The Group?
This is a question you may be wondering. I have been apart of Ultimate-Guitar.com for years now. I joined just a little bit after I started playing guitar and I wanted to find a community to fit my needs as a guitarist. I usually go on the forum at least one a week to obtain new guitar tabs or post some fixes that I have made to a previously made tab. Also, I love helping new players learn to do more advance techniques like finger picking or sweep picking. I also love to help people decide on what guitar the would like to get. I know a lot about guitar as I have customized my own to my preferences.
Special Terms We Use!
As a member of Ultimate-Guitar.com there are many terms that you should know to be successful.
The Neck: The part of the guitar that your hand holds down the strings.
Fret: A fret is one of the sections of a guitar on the neck that separates the different notes to be played by the musician
Tab: A tab is a form of sheet music made specifically for written down guitar music. There are 6 lines symbolizing the actual strings on the guitar. The numbers on the strings are what frets are needed to be pressed down to play the note that the tab is referring to. Here is an example of what a tab looks like.
Pickups: They are the part of the guitar the lies underneath the strings where you pick them. These pickups are only on electric guitars and are used to send musical signals out to an amplifier to produce the sounds to be much loader.
Those are basically the main terms you will need to know if you want to succeed in this discourse community!

Types of Written Material We Use
There are many ways us members of Ultimate-Guitar.com use written material to obtain our goals. The main form of communication are definitely tabs. Everyone wants to learn that one song they just loved to hear on the radio and if there is no tab for it online it could seriously make the individuals frustrated because they cannot learn it by ear yet. This is why the more expert members of the forum pick up the slack and constantly create and revise these tabs for the average player to learn and get better. Eventually they will be able to compose these tabs and help out even newer members. Its a cycle that will never be broken of students becoming masters and teaching other students of their own.
Tabs really are the main form of communication but communication is also made between users to learn about certain things, like who is looking for a band or a musician. Also many discussions are made like the guitar of the month article. All of these different types of writings come together to help everyone become a better guitarist.
